Disposal of Deuterium, Tungsten, and Xenon Lamps

Notes for Disposing Deuterium (D2) Lamps, Tungsten (W) Lamps, and Xenon (Xe) Lamps

When disposing a deuterium (D2) lamp, tungsten (W) lamp, or xenon (Xe) lamp, separate it from general wastes and handle it as an industrial waste. Dispose it in a way that does not cause environmental pollution or harm people's health, following the related laws and regulations.

Disposal of Xenon (Xe) Lamps

Before disposing xenon (Xe) lamps, break them for the safety of operators in charge of processing wastes by following the procedure below.

  • Be sure to wear protective equipment such as a protective mask, thick long-sleeved shirt, and protection gloves.
    High-pressure gas is enclosed in the xenon (Xe) lamp.
    When breaking the lamps, fragments of the glass may be scattered, and this may cause an injury.
  • Before breaking the xenon (Xe) lamp for disposal, store it in the box in which it was packed at the time of delivery.
  • Completely wrap up the xenon (Xe) lamp in a thick cloth.
  • Strike the glass part of the xenon (Xe) lamp, wrapped in the cloth, with a hammer to break it.
  • Dispose of the broken xenon (Xe) lamp properly following the related laws and regulations, separated from general wastes.
