Tensile Test Methods for Plastics: ISO 527 and JIS K 7161
Resin materials (plastics) are found in a wide variety of items used on a daily basis. Recently, plastics have started to be used as structural materials in transportation equipment, such as automobiles and aircraft, due to their strength and light-weight nature. In these applications, it is important to understand the mechanical strength properties of these plastics. ISO 527 and JIS K 7161 outline methods for testing the tensile strength of plastics and other resin materials. Included in these methods are accuracy specifications for the test frame and test accessories. The contents of ISO 527 and JIS K 7161 are basically the same, but differ from the equivalent ASTM standard for tensile testing of plastics, ASTM D638. This issue focuses on Materials Science particularly on lithium-ion batteries (LiBs). It starts with two customer interviews in which users discuss their relationship with Shimadzu.
Hydrogen Energy Analysis Solutions for Quality Control of Hydrogen
Impurities in hydrogen production affect subsequent industrial processes. Strict purity standards have been defined for hydrogen used in fuel cells (ISO 14687-2019). This is because if hydrogen contains carbon monoxide, sulfur components, etc., the catalyst of the fuel cell will be damaged. The hydrogen fuel standard for FCVs (ISO 14687 TypeII GradeD) defines many items to be controlled, and Shimadzu analytical instruments can play a role in analyzing these items.
Shimadzu at IIW 2022

Shimadzu has released the MIV-X Ultrasonic Optical Flaw Detector
The MIV-X visualizes and digitizes flaws (peeling, cracks, and voids) in parts and multi-materials in aircraft, automobiles, and electrical and electronic equipment using our proprietary ultrasonic optical flaw detection technology, which acquires an image of the propagation of ultrasonic on the surface of an object.
Shimadzu has released TRAPEZIUM SATELLITE Testing Machine Remote Monitoring System
Shimadzu announces the release of TRAPEZIUM SATELLITE, a remote monitoring system for testing machines. This system enables the remote assessment of test conditions by checking instrument images using a USB camera and operating status data obtained from the fatigue testing machine.
