raBit activities (Next-Gen. Bioethanol)
Because first-generation bioethanol competes with food resources, research is increasingly focused on second-generation bioethanol derived from non-edible biomass. However, feedstock processing is complex, and significant challenges remain before it can be widely commercialized. To address these issues, seven leading Japanese companies established raBit (the Research Association of Biomass Innovation for Next Generation Automobile Fuels), aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions and costs across the entire value chain—from feedstock production and fuel manufacturing to fuel use. Shimadzu Corporation supports this research through analytical solutions.
