Top Message

I believe our dreams and the energy born of striving to achieve them are the spark of innovation. I hope that our richly diverse colleagues around the world will speak with enthusiasm to our customers about their mutual dreams and, by empathizing with each other, create new and exciting innovations.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is crucial to achieving this.

Everyone working in the Shimadzu Group recognizes that we all have differences in age, sex, nationality, religious affiliation, experience, values, and field of expertise. Talking and empathizing with each other helps turn this diversity into real possibilities, embodying our corporate philosophy of “Contributing to Society through Science and Technology” and contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

By promoting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the Shimadzu Group will continue to pursue planetary health as we work to create a society that is empathetic to all.

Our View on DE&I

Diversity

Respecting Diversity as a Reflection of Individuality
We accept without bias, mutually recognize, and respect individual differences including differences of gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, presence/absence of disabilities, experience and career, values, work styles, and degree of expertise.

Equity

Providing Fair Opportunities
We provide an environment in which individual differences can be fully utilized, to ensure that everyone receives fair opportunities and resources regardless of individual differences.

Inclusion

Each of us Proud to be a Member of the Shimadzu Group
We create an open corporate culture of psychological safety in which everyone can express themselves freely, and dialog leads to mutual recognition. Everyone obtains a real sense of contribution, bringing forth new ideas and innovations led to the future.

Training aimed at empowering female managers

Since 2021, the conference has been held annually for women in managerial positions with the aim of improving work results and efficiency by understanding and making the most of women's professional empowerment and encouraging growth through  networking with other female managers.

Employment and empowerment of global employees

My name is  Davide and I am from Milan, Italy.
I have worked in LC Business Unit for several years and was promoted to LC Product Manager in 2021. Previously, I served as a LCMS product specialist for three years at Shimadzu Italy.
Before joining Shimadzu, I spent six years at the University of Milan as a researcher in the fields of biochemistry and microbiology.
I currently live in Kyoto with my wife.
Outside of work, I am discovering the charms of Japan (including Japanese language and culture) every day.
I feel very honored and grateful to my supervisor for this great opportunity to be the first non-Japanese manager at the head office. I am also grateful to my colleagues in the LC Business Unit for their constant support.

Organization of the Shimadzu Diversity Week

The Shimadzu Group introduced "Thinking About Diversity Day" in FY2020, with the goal of fostering self-directed diversity. In FY2023, this initiative evolved into a week-long celebration known as "Shimadzu DE&I Week.“
During this dedicated week, employees are encouraged to reflect on and enhance their understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) within the Shimadzu Group, both in Japan and internationally. The week features a variety of engaging activities, including thematic workshops, discussion sessions, art exhibitions, cuisines inspired by the countries of our employees, and more.
